The Florida Highway Patrol was expected to close part of Alligator Alley (Interstate 75) early Tuesday because of large brush fires in the Everglades.
The Alley was expected to reopen at some point later Tuesday, but Florida Highway Patrol officials warned that it could be closed intermittently during the coming days -- probably starting after midnight and continuing until daybreak.
Heavy fog and smoke from expansive, lingering brush fires in Collier County have prompted the closing of the cross-state toll road several times since April 22.
The road has been closed between U.S. 27 in Broward County and mile marker 101, about 75 miles to the west.
