Florida lawmakers to extend session to deal with budget

House Speaker Larry Cretul and Senate President Jeff Atwater announced Tuesday that they've worked out the framework for the budget so that conference committees can begin this afternoon with final votes on a conferenced budget expected by the end of next week, according to the News Service of Florida.

The session will extend for budget issues only through next Friday, May 8.

The conference committees will begin at 4 p.m today and are expected to meet through Friday. The budget chairs will meet through this weekend, with outstanding issues bumped up to Atwater and Cretul Sunday. The budget will be printed Monday and on the desks of lawmakers by Tuesday, with the cooling off period allowing a vote on the agreed-on budget by Friday, May 8. both presiding officers said.
