MANATEE -- In an irony or ironies, Ken Quinn, second mate of the Maersk Alabama, and a pirate whose wounds he treated off the coast of Somalia, were both in New York City today.
The pirate was in town for a court hearing, while Quinn was preparing to fly with his family to Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport.
"I'm wondering if he is still wearing my shoes," Quinn said of the pirate, whose hand was injured when the crew of the cargo ship fought back against the takeover.
Quinn not only stopped the bleeding and bandaged the pirates hand, but gave him a pair of shoes to wear.
