Cops: Man threatens Manatee drug store with bomb

MANATEE — Authorities are investigating a hold -up at a local drug store this afternoon during which a man implied he had a bomb.

Just after 1 p.m. the man reportedly entered the Walgreens at 1504 53rd Ave. E., approached the pharmacy counter and told a clerk he had a detonating device, said Manatee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dave Bristow.

"The suspect demanded Oxycontin, implied he had a bomb under his clothing and said he would set the device office he didn’t get the drugs,” Bristow said.

The suspect eventually fled the store in an unknown direction.

As of this afternoon, detective were investigating if the suspect got away with any pills.

Witnesses said although he implied he had a bomb, no one saw any type of device.

The suspect is described as standing 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing about about 170 pounds. He has brown hair and was wearing shorts and a T-shirt, Bristow said.
