MANATEE - Firefighters from the Division of Forestry and East Manatee Fire Rescue brought a wildfire under control about 5 p.m. near Heritage Harbour. The community is located northeast of the Interstate 75 and State Road 64 intersection.
The fire, which burned to within a few feet of I-75, was headed east toward a wooded area.
About five acres have been scorched by the blaze. No structures appeared to be at risk from the fire. Manatee County is one of the state's most at-risk areas for wildfires right now because of the dry conditions.
North-bound traffic on I-75 was backed up the State Road 70 exit. The outside lane of traffic nearest the shoulder was closed to traffic.
