Kirkwood brought Kington in for a sold-out show four years ago. Funds raised through his first performance were used for several successful mission trips and projects.
The Kirkwood youth group is scheduled to go to Rutland, Vt., in June to volunteer with parks and recreation staff to cultivate parks and open spaces and serve in thrift shops, nursing homes, volunteer in youth clubs, and repair and restore homes of the impoverished.
Kirkwood plans an adult mission trip to Belize with an organization called "Rivers of the World," with whom they will build sustainable pit latrines and conduct a sewing school for the women who can use the new skills to support families.
Funds raised will also support Kirkwood's "Significant Service Workdays," where congregation members spend time with local mission partners completing tasks such as cleaning, painting, repairing, reading to young children, or cooking and delivering meals. Significant Service Workdays provide opportunities for church members to share time and talents with those who can benefit from them. Hundreds of volunteer hours are spent each year through these workdays in Manatee County.
