"100 Voices" to be screened: Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota, presents a screening of the film "100 Voices: A Journey Home," at 2 p.m. April 29. The film is a compelling musical documentary chronicling the history of Jewish culture in Poland -- and its amazing resurgence -- through the personal reflections and musical selections of a group of cantors and acclaimed composer Charles Fox. National Day of Prayer observance: The churches of Anna Maria Island will join in observing the National Day of Prayer at 11 a.m. May 3 at the Holmes Beach gazebo at 59th Street and Flotilla Drive. Sponsored by All Island Denominations, a group formed to promote ecumenical worship, fellowship and charitable assistance to the people of Anna Maria Island. Bring your own lawn chairs. May Friendship Day: Church Women United in Manatee will celebrate May Friendship Day with hospitality at 9:30 a.m. and a program at 10 a.m. May 4 at Westminister Manor, 1700 21st Ave. W., Bradenton. Missionaries to speak: The Rev. Dwight and Carolyn Rich, missionaries to Quito, Ecuador, will be special speakers for the Southern Florida District Nazarene Missions International Convention at 7:30 p.m. May 4 at Bradenton First Church of the Nazarene, 1616 59th St. W. Nearly 400 delegates from more than 90 Nazarene Congregations in Southern Florida will be bringing pairs of new shoes for children in Haiti. The community is invited. Humorist, author to speak: The Center for PositiveLiving will host author, humorist and motivational speaker Kelly Swanson 10:15-11:30 a.m. May 6 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Mitzvah Day: Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota, invites the community to participate in the sixth annual Mitzvah Day beginning at noon May 6. Mitzvah Day is devoted to hands-on service projects that benefit charitable organizations throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties. Participants will engage in projects such as wrapping gifts for needy children, preparing lunches for the homeless, knitting for hospitalized infants, picking up trash on McIntosh Road, and more.
