“Adopt-A-Family” Angel Tree: Living Lord Lutheran Church, 11107 Palmbrush Trail, Lakewood Ranch, will have their Angel Tree prominently displayed in the Narthex for the public to pick a ribbon, blue for a boy, pink for a girl, to help make Christmas come true for needy children and families in the community. Holiday Advent season organ recitals: The Church of the Redeemer, 222 S. Palm Ave., Sarasota, will begin its Advent season organ recitals Nov. 30. Shabbat Sholom: Temple Beth Sholom Schools, 1050 S. Tuttle Ave., Sarasota, offers a monthly event for all families with children under 5 years old to meet, discuss and share ideas on celebrating Jewish holidays and lifecycle events at home. Holiday boutique: Rabbi Barbara Aiello, who grew up in Italy, will speak about the Italian way of celebrating Hanukkah and other Italian traditions, to the National Council of Jewish Women Sarasota-Manatee Section at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 7 at Temple Sinai, 4631 South Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota. The afternoon begins with a holiday boutique where jewelry, accessories, clothing and gift items will be available for sale. Bethlehem Walk: Roser Memorial Community Church, 512 Pine Ave., Anna Maria, will hold its annual Bethlehem Walk at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10. The walk consists of taking the journey to Bethlehem with Mary, Joseph and the animals in search of shelter. On this route, participants will travel from “inn” to “inn” and will join together for a prayer and sing favorite Christmas carols. The walk will end at Fellowship Hall for hot chocolate and cookies. Handel’s Messiah: The St. Joseph Music Makers, under the direction of Timothy O’Connor, will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their Advent Concert by performing G.F. Handel’s “Messiah” at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3100 26th St. W., Bradenton. The concert will also feature members of the Sarasota Orchestra and soloists Lorraine Murphy, soprano; Amy Jo Connours, alto; Robert Lischetti, tenor; and Bernard Hahnke, bass. Baroque Christmas: “Going Baroque at Christmas” is the theme of the holiday concert to be performed by the choral ensemble Musica Sacra Cantorum at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at St. Boniface Episcopal Church, 5615 Midnight Pass Road, Siesta Key. Cantatas No. 1 and No. 40, composed by J. S. Bach especially for the Christmas season, will make up the centerpiece of this program. Cookie basket: The Parish Life Committee of Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3131 61st St., Sarasota, is making plans for the annual cookie basket program in December. Information: 941-355-4729.

Untangling relationships: A new, free class titled “Untangling Relationships” is set for those who are in, or have been in, a relationship with someone with addictions or control issues. Living Lord Lutheran Church: Our Daily Bread/Project 5000 at Living Lord Lutheran Church, 11120 S.R. 70 E., Lakewood Ranch, is collecting grocery bags filled with unbreakable containers to feed local families. Each bag will feed a family of four for two days or a family of two for four days. Also, the Quilters and Crafty Ladies meet 3 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month to make lap robes and quilts for the needy in Manatee County. Longboat Island Chapel: As part of its Aging in Paradise Resource Center, which addresses the issues of aging, introduces its memory loss support group to the communities of Sarasota and Manatee. The group meets 11 a.m.-1 p.m. every other Wednesday. Information: 941-383-6491.

Orthodox Catholic: The Synod of Governing Bishops for the Holy Orthodox Catholic Church announced the opening if their new church temporarily at 2700 S. Tamiami Trail, Suite 11B, Sarasota. The Very Rev. Archbishop Jacob J. K. Longacre was appointed first pastor. All seven sacraments will be available in the Orthodox Form by making an appointment with the pastor at 941-954-0330.

Temple Beth Israel: The Social Action Committee of Temple Beth Israel collects donations for the Bill Galvano One Stop Center. Needed: funding for medication, socks, mosquito repellent, toilet articles and soap, shoes, jeans, baby diapers and formula, reading glasses and bicycles. Donations can be given directly to the One Stop Center, 701 17th Ave. W., or dropped off at Temple Beth Israel, 567 Bay Isles Road, Longboat Key.

Temple Emanu-El: Under the direction of its Social Action Committee, Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota, continues its food drive for those in Sarasota-Manatee who go hungry. Nonperishable boxed and canned foods may be placed in a marked bin in the Temple lobby during business hours and before and after Shabbat worship services. All donations benefit the kosher food pantry at Jewish Family and Children’s Services or All Faiths Food Bank. Information: 941-966-9561.

Zen Zone: American Buddhist nun Gen Kelsang Demo is teaching meditation 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday at the Zen Zone, San Marco Plaza, 8209 Natures Way, Suite 217, Lakewood Ranch. The class consists of a guided meditation, a short talk and an opportunity for questions and answers. Each talk is part of a series, yet is self-contained.
