Guest speaker: Dr. Jesse C. Middendorf, a general superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene, will be guest speaker for an International Dinner at 6 p.m. Jan. 29 and for services at 10:50 a.m. and 6 p.m. Jan. 30 at Bradenton First Church of the Nazarene, 1616 59th St. W. Middendorf is one of six general superintendents, the highest elective office of the denomination, who have supervision over the church worldwide in more than 140 countries. Prayer Breakfast: Bob Delaney, one of the NBA’s most respected officials, will be the keynote speaker of the fourth annual Leadership Prayer Breakfast to benefit Take Stock in Children of Manatee County at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 3 at the Bradenton Municipal Auditorium. Bishop Frank J. Dewane, who leads the 10-county Catholic Diocese of Venice, will be a special guest at the event, and will join other local and regional religious leaders in offering prayers and blessings.
Exploring Yiddish: Congregation Kol HaNeshama, which meets at the South Gate Community Center, 3145 South Gate Circle, Sarasota, hosts teacher and scholar Miriam Isaacs as she explores aspects of Yiddish and ways it’s being preserved Feb. 4 and 5. A catered, kosher chicken dinner -- by reservation only -- will follow 6 p.m. Friday services. Isaacs will then explore the state of contemporary Yiddish among secular and traditional communities.
