7/25 Local Briefs: Msgr. Moretti arrangements scheduled

BRADENTON — Funeral arrangements for Msgr. Moretti, the longtime pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul The Apostles Catholic Church in Bradenton and Vicar General of the Diocese of Venice, were finalized Saturday.

Msgr. Moretti died Friday after a short illness.

The arrangements, released by the Diocese, are as follows:

n There will be a viewing at Ss. Peter and Paul, 2850 75th St. W., from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

n A Vigil service will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

n The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent in the name of Msgr. Moretti to the Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land, P.O. Box 29086, Washington, D.C. 20017.

Arrangements are through Brown Funeral Home in Bradenton.

Backpack drive goes to new heights

MANATEE — Bayside Community Church Outreach Pastor Charles Young will be suspended in a crane 60 feet in the air at Chick-fil-A. 5206 73rd Lane E., during store hours from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. August 2-6 or until 1,000 backpacks with school supplies have been donated.

The backpacks will be given to children and teenagers at Oakridge Apartments in Palmetto, PACE Center for Girls and Oneco Elementary School.

Anyone wanting to participate will be able to pick up school supply lists inside Chick-fil-A or can visit www.baysidecommunity. org.

Volunteers from Bayside will distribute the backpacks filled with school supplies to Oakridge Apartments on Aug. 14, and to PACE Center for Girls and Oneco Elementary on Aug. 16.
