EASTER, PASSOVER

Easter services: Ellenton United Methodist Church, 6807 U.S. 301 N., Ellenton, will have a community breakfast 8-10 a.m. today in the Community Life Center. Cost is $4 a person. Worship services will be at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Easter Sunday, with adult Christian education at 9:45 a.m. All are welcome. Information: (941) 729-6802.

Easter services: Bradenton First Church of the Nazarene will have an Eggstravaganza today for children though fifth grade. It will include an Easter egg hunt, appearance by the Easter Bunny, story time and a free lunch. Registration begins at 9:30 and the event will be from 10 a.m. until noon. The church will have two identical Resurrection Celebration Services at 9:30 and 10:50 a.m. on Easter. The service will include seasonal music by the choir, Praise Team and Instrumental Ensemble; open communion for all believers and an Easter message by Senior Pastor Tony Miller. There will be no Sunday School or evening service this Sunday only.

Holy Week: Whitfield Presbyterian, 7045 North Tamiami Trail, will have an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. today. Easter services will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The public is invited. Information: (941) 355-0440.

Holy Week: Harvest United Methodist Church, Lakewood Ranch, will have an Easter egg hunt and spring festival at 10 a.m. today. All children from babies to fifth graders are invited to come and hunt for eggs. The event is free to the public. Harvest United Methodist will celebrate Easter with four worship services. Sunrise Service begins at 6:30 a.m., followed by a service at 8 a.m. Both will be held at the church’s outdoor worship area, near the back lake. A traditional worship service begins at 9 a.m. in the Harvest Centre, followed by a more contemporary service with a time especially for children, at 10:30 a.m. Information: (941) 907-7333.

Eggstravaganza: Faith Church United Methodist Church’s Eggstravaganza is set for 10:30 a.m.-12:20 p.m. today at 7215 First Ave. W. behind the Post Office on 75th Street.

Holy Week: Holy Cross Catholic Church, 505 26th St. W., Palmetto, will have a Vigil Mass of the Resurrection at 8:30 p.m. today. Easter Sunday Masses will be at at 8 and 10 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. in Spanish.

Easter Sunrise Service: The Manatee County Easter Sunrise Service sponsored by the Manatee County Ministries Association, the Ministerial Fellowship of the Gulf Coast, the North River Ministerial Association and the DeSoto Historical Society will be held at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at Rossi Waterfront Park, Bradenton. Rev. Joey Mimbs, senior pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, will deliver the message. Bring a lawn chair and blanket.

Sunrise Service: The 46th annual Sunrise Service at Manatee County Public Beach is set for 6:30 a.m. Sunday. The invocation will be delivered by Rev. Harry I. Parsell of the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation. This year’s sermon will be presented by Rev. Gary Batey of the Roser Memorial Community Church in Anna Maria. All funds raised will go equally t0 six island churches. The public is invited.

Easter services: Living Lord Lutheran Church, 11120 State Road 70 E., will have Easter services at 8, 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. Youth will serve a pancake breakfast between all Easter services.

Easter services: Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3131 61st St., Sarasota, will have Easter Sunday services at 9 and 11 a.m. A celebration of the church’s heritage will be held at 5:30 p.m. April 7. Information: 355-4729.

Agape benefit: Easter Fest is set for noon-7 p.m. April 4 at Payne Park, Sarasota. Events include potato sack races, a huge Easter egg hunt, petting zoo, carnival and pony rides, and a chance to win great prizes. There will be a Christian rock concert, showcasing the best in local Christian youth bands. Admission is $5 for adults; children 12 and younger are admitted free. Passover ends: Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota, will mark the last day of the Passover holiday with a religious service at 10 a.m. April 5. The service will be conducted by Rabbi Brenner J. Glickman and will include a Torah and Haftarah reading, as well as the yizkor, or memorial, prayers traditionally recited on the day. UPCOMING EVENTS

Film discussion: Temple Emanu-El’s Adult Education Committee presents an afternoon of film and discussion 2-4 p.m. April 4 at Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota. The event begins with a screening of the award-winning film, “Menachem and Fred,” which tells the true story of two brothers separated by the Holocaust. Church women: Church Women United will meet April 9 at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, 6101 Cortez Road, Bradenton, with hospitality at 9:30 a.m. and the program at 10. Women and men from all faith congregations and other interested individuals are invited to attend.

Home conference: Women of all ages and stages are welcome to attend The Home Experience conference at The Bridge Church, 4500 75th St. W., Bradenton, 7-9 p.m. April 9 and 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. April 10. Speaker and author Devi Titus will share practical solutions for finding fulfillment, peace and harmony in the home. Coffee house: The Manatee Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will hold a coffee house at 7 p.m. April 9 with Clarisse Zielke, folksinger, songwriter, and guitarist; Jack Gardner on banjo and Elliot Prout on guitar. Operation Inasmuch: Single moms and widows are invited to call the First Baptist Bradenton church office at 746-2149 to schedule an appointment to get a free car check-up on April 10, under the congregation’s Operation Inasmuch program. The car check-up will be at Keener’s Automotive in Palmetto. An oil change is available if needed. Also, there will be a bloodmobile in the church parking lot of First Baptist that day. Blood donors can call the church office in advance at 746-2149 to schedule an appointment.

Gospel & Games: Palmetto Historical Park and Agricultural Museum’s “Gospel & Games Social” will be held 5:30-8 p.m. April 10. The Wares Creek Boys, Allison-Spencer and Sam Lane will perform. Jazz in the Chapel: First United Methodist Church, 104 S. Piano concert: Russian pianist Eleonora Lvov will present two free concerts to benefit Sarasota and Manatee Unitarian Universalist Fellowships. Special prom: Faith Christian Church will host the second Prom for Manatee and Sarasota Residents with Special Needs 7-9:30 p.m. April 23. The church will extend invitations to special needs programs in seven area high schools. The goal is to make this a memorable event for these special individuals. Faith Christian Church is asking local businesses and the Manatee and Sarasota communities to step up in an effort to supply transportation, attire, salon services, food and photography. Osteens appearance: Joel and Victoria Osteen, pastors of the largest church in America, will hold a worship event at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa at 7:30 p.m. June 4.
