All pets at Palmetto shelter can be adopted for $10 this weekend
MANATEE -- Due to overcrowding at its Palmetto shelter, Manatee County Animal Services is offering a special adoption price this weekend as part of the Back to School Adoption Special.
The adoption fee for all pets will be reduced to $10 per animal, according to a news release. The fee is for adoptions this Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Palmetto shelter, 305 25th St. W., Palmetto.
The shelter currently has 152 dogs and 140 cats.
According to the release, the adoption fee is a "$300 value since the animals are sterilized, microchipped and vaccinated." County residents must also buy a $15 county license tag.
"They'll also be saving a life and helping us create space for the hundreds of lost and abandoned animals that enter our facility through no fault of their own," Animal Services volunteer specialist Sam Wolfe said in the release. "We urgently need public support to help us save lives. By providing low adoption fees, we hope to see a record number of people coming into the shelter and giving our wonderful animals a new life."
The Pets for Vets program, which ends this weekend, allows all military veterans, law enforcement and first responder to take home a pet for free.
