Manatee County hosts two-day animal adoption event in August

MANATEE -- Two Manatee County multiple-day animal adoption events will take place this summer.

Manatee County will host its first countywide animal adoption expo in August.

Manatee County Pet Adopt-A-Palooza, the two-day adoption event, will be on Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 2 at the Bradenton Area Convention Center, One Haben Blvd., Palmetto.

"If you are looking for a pet or want to learn more about pet care, this is the event you want to attend," county Animal Services director Bill Hutchinson said in a news release.

On June 26-28, the Humane Society of Manatee County is partnering with other Manatee County organizations, including Bishop SPCA Animal Shelter, Gulf Shore Animal League at Pet Supermarkets, Manatee County Animal Services, Nate's Honor Animal Rescue, Nate's Place Adoption Center and Petco locations for a weekend-long countywide Kitten Adopt-a-Thon. All participating shelters and rescue organizations are offering kittens at a reduced price of $35. All kittens will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.

At the August Adopt-A-Palooza, the expo-style event is "designed to bring the community together as Manatee County works toward 'Destination No-Kill,'" according to the release.

The event, which is pet friendly, is free and there will more than 100 adoptable dogs and cats. All animals will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

There will also be a Flyball Tournament demonstration, search and rescue demonstrations, speakers and raffle drawings, according to the release.

Manatee County license tags will be for sale in addition to the speciality retailers and vendors selling pet related products and services. The public is also asked to bring donations of dog and cat food.
