Bradenton Fire Department rescues kitten

BRADENTON -- The Bradenton Fire Department rescued a cat trapped in a sewer line in the 1500 block of Manatee Avenue West at 5:19 p.m. Sunday.

Two citizens told firefighters they heard the cat in the storm drain on the north side of Manatee Avenue. Firefighters removed a metal grate, used a gas detector to check air quality, then determined the best means of rescuing the cat using specialized equipment and assistance from Animal Services.

At 6:29 p.m., a 6- to 8-week-old kitten was rescuedfrom the pipe and turned over to Animal Services.

Responders included: three fire suppression units with six personnel and one person from Manatee County Animal Services.
