PALMETTO -- Southeastern Guide Dogs’ 25th Annual Walkathon had a tremendous turnout Saturday at Rossi Waterfront Park, with sponsors predicting they raised $375,000.
“We are estimating 2,200 people and more than 500 dogs walked to support our cause, which is more than any other year,” CEO Titus Herman said in a press release. “We are also are projecting that $375,000 was raised. That money allows us to provide world class dogs to those who can benefit from mobility and independence, all at no charge to them.”
Southeastern Guide Dogs is one of 12 accredited guide dog schools in the United States and the only one in the Southeast. They match an estimated 70 guide dogs teams annually, without charge and with no government funding, according to the release.
