Bradenton is the fifth "drunkest" place in Florida, according to a website that aims to "show you the real side of places that not everyone wants to hear."
The irreverent ranking by RoadSnacks.net was based on five criteria:
- Number of bars and pubs per capita.
- Number of wineries per capita.
- Number of liquor stores per capita.
- Each city's drunk-related tweets within the last week, based on certain hashtags.
- Each city's divorce rate, "Cause, you know, drinking is one reason for divorce, and something that divorced people do a lot of," the website states.
If it's any comfort, Sarasota came as the second-drunkest city in Florida. Key West was No. 1
This is what RoadSnacks said about Bradenton:
"Bradenton's city motto is, 'The Friendly City.' Yeah, no doubt about that one. Everyone is a lot more friendly and easy going when they've had 6 Tom Collinses and a few tequila shots. Except the angry, depressed divorcees, which there seem to be a lot of in this part of the state.
"Bradenton is home to Tropicana, one of the largest makers of orange juice in the world. Therefore, we're assuming there are tons of screwdrivers and fuzzy navels served from sun up to sun down.
"If you look at Bradenton's city website, the two most commonly asked questions involve trash pickup and recycling collection times. Are we hinting that we have a lot of empties to be picked up, Bradenton residents?"
RoadSnacks said Bradenton's divorce rate is 15.7 percent; and that it ranks ninth and 10th in liquor stores per capita and bars per capita statewide, respectively.
