SPECIAL EVENTS

Wine tasting: An Evening with Domaine Serene hosted by Brand Ambassador Angie Cheatham and Augustan Wine Imports representative Robin Stephenson will be held at 6 p.m. May 15 at Michael's Wine Cellar, 1212 East Ave. S., Sarasota. Featured Domaine Serene wines from Willamette Valley, Oregon, will include the 2012 Rosé, "Evenstad Reserve" Chardonnay, "Yamhill Cuvee" Pinot Noir and "Evenstad Reserve" Pinot Noir. Admission is $25 per person. Admission to each event includes tastes of the featured wines as well as light hors d'oeuvres. Space is limited and reservations are required. Sunday gospel brunch: The Polo Grill, 10670 Boardwalk Loop, Lakewood Ranch, will hold a special Sunday gospel brunch featuring Shantel Norman with Truality, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. May 17. Brunch includes a buffet, Bloody Mary bar, mimosa bar and great music. Cost: $25 per person plux tax, gratuity, and alcoholic beverages. Taste of UTC: Taste of UTC, a food, fashion and beauty event, is 6-9 p.m. May 19 at the Mall at University Town Center in Sarasota. Presented by Holcombe-Kreithen Plastic Surgery and MedSpa, the event features a progessive dining stroll with appetizers at Brio Tuscan Grille, entree tastings at The Capital Grille and desserts at Seasons 52. Polo Grill weekly specials: Polo Grill in Lakewood Ranch is offering new daily specials. Kick off the week with a complimentary glass of house wine with a $10 food purchase during lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays. Tuesday you can get a burger and beer for $6 during lunch. Wednesday features all-you-can-eat apps for $10 per person from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in lounge only. Thursday is pizza and piano night in the lounge. Enjoy complimentary handcrafted pizza while listening to the talented Jordan Bush from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. End the business week with a $1 ice cold Bud Light draft during happy hour from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday's in the lounge. Then stick around for live entertainment which begins at 9 p.m. Polo Grill and Bar is on Lakewood Ranch Main Street. Cuban Epicurean Adventure: Each month, Michael's On East offers new "Epicurean Adventure" lunch and dinner menus inspired by exotic culinary destinations. In April, the culinary team will present a Portugal Epicurean Adventure. The three-course dinner menu is available Monday through Saturday evenings for $34.95 per person. The two-course Power Lunch offering features a choice of entrée and dessert for $18.95 per person and is available Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 941-366-0007, ext. 224 or visit www.bestfood.com for reservations.

Jazz brunch: The Sandbar's Sunday Jazz Brunch features nationally recognized, top local jazz musicians. The menu, served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., includes items made with farm-to-fork produce along with fresh gulf seafood, breads made on site and drinks made with fresh fruits. COOKING CLASSES

Chef series: Chef Andrea at Amore by Andrea, 555 Bay Isles Parkway, Longboat Key, will be featuring a three-course tasting menu, including a wine pairing with the first two courses, 6 p.m. May 19. The menu will be prepared including ingredients provided by The Spice and Tea Exchange on St. Armands Circle. The evening will also include a chef demonstration, complimentary wine pairing with two courses, and cash bar. Cost: $32.95 plus tax and tip. RSVP by May 14 by calling 941-388-1411.

Apron's classes: Apron's Cooking School at Publix At University Walk, 2875 University Parkway; students may register for all classes online at www.publix.com or by calling 941-358-7829.
