The website for the City of Bradenton that was down Friday morning is back open for business.
Instead of the words “The Friendly City” blazed in cursive across the home page and orange sunglasses reflecting the city skyline and a palm tree, a GoDaddy.com logo appeared. According to the temporary page, the domain name “cityofbradenton.com” expired on July 10 and is pending renewal or deletion.
The domain name was created on July 10, 2000, according to domain name database ICANN WHOIS, and has been more or less functioning for the past 16 years. It was registered by Domains by Proxy, LLC, a Scottsdale-based company owned by GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons.
City of Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston said the site went down Friday morning, but he said they’re waiting for “our people in California” to get it fixed.
“The time difference is taking a while for us to get it to work,” Poston said. “The domain name is not expired.”
