Westbound lanes of the John Ringling Causeway Bridge are now open after four hours of being clogged by an accident.

At approximately 11:20 a.m. Saturday, a truck driving carelessly westbound over the Ringling Bridge, did a U-turn at Bird Key and drove back eastbound over the bridge with a flat tire, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

As the truck drove eastbound, it sideswiped the raised concrete wall multiple times. After going over the bridge, the truck went through the landscaped median and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a Cadillac in the westbound lanes.

About 300 feet later, the truck sideswiped a Pontiac Grand Prix in the right breakdown lane, according to the report.

The truck driver and driver of the Cadillac were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with injuries.

It's unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, according to SPD.
