Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon is with the Chicago Cubs now, but he's still celebrating "Thanksmas" in the Bay area.
Every Thanksmas, hundreds come to Ava in South Tampa to buy Maddon's signature dish and raise money for charity.
Maddon started the tradition almost a decade ago, and the fundraiser is close to his heart.
"I don't like walking somewhere and seeing somebody, a human being, having a hard time making ends meet," Maddon said. "You can't always do anything about it, but if you can do something, just do something."
This past year has been quite busy for Maddon. Although he lives in Tampa for part of the year, Maddon has focused much of his time with the Cubs in Chicago. But the National League Manager of the Year said he hasn't forgotten the needs here.
That's why, nine years after starting Thanksmas, Maddon wants to make sure the tradition of helping others lives on. And not just in Tampa, either — Maddon expanded the event to his hometown and is planning a similar fundraiser in Chicago next year.
It's Maddon's way of giving back, and he said he won't be satisfied until the fundraiser is happening all over the country.
