MANATEE -- A 15-year-old Horizons Academy High School student was arrested Friday after firing shots into the air near a bus stop, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Malik Dangelo Harris, who was arrested about two hours after the incident was reported, faces a charge of discharging a weapon within 1,000 feet of a school, which is a third-degree felony.
Deputies were dispatched about 7:25 a.m. to a bus stop at 3200 Ninth St. E. after students reported hearing gunfire, a release states.
Two students and a bus monitor told the Horizons Academy resource officer that witnessed Harris firing a gun into the air while at their bus stop, according to the sheriff's office.
Harris did not threaten any students, nor fire in the direction of the school bus, students or school, the release states.
Harris was arrested at 9:35 a.m. at a nearby residence.
As a precautionary measure, several schools did go on lock down Friday morning until the suspect was located and arrested, said Margi Nanney, Manatee School District spokeswoman.
No injuries were reported.
