PALMETTO -- A $1.12 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Agency has provided new roofs, doors and air-conditioning units to residences in the Palmetto Villas Apartments community, said Thomas F. Flynn, president of Flynn Development Corp. during a ribbon-cutting ceremony today.
A total of 49 units for low-income families underwent the six months of renovations, Flynn said.
“I know our residents really appreciate it,” he said.
Palmetto Villas Apartments were built in 1979 and had since deteriorated dramatically, Flynn said.
Richard A. Machek, state director for USDA Rural Development, said that a year ago the area was a “battleground” with “no hope for survival,” but that the renovations would motivate residents to take care of the community and revitalize the area.
