White pelicans are Florida's true snowbirds

A fish slides down the pouch of a white pelican on Thursday as a flock of the migratory birds gather in a lake in the 6400 block of Lincoln Road in East Manatee. White pelicans are truly Florida´s snowbirds. The large white birds migrate south during the month of October and fly north around March. White pelicans do not dive for their food like our more familiar year-around brown pelican, but herd small fish into shallow water and use their pouch to scoop up their meal.
