TV comes in the ‘Nick’ of time

MANATEE -- Before Monday, Angelina Santos had never won anything.

As luck would have it, her first win could not have come at a better time.

The single mother of two was moving out of her apartment and into a new townhome. But the TV didn’t survive the move. The set was dropped, breaking the screen.

“We didn’t mean to do it,” Santos said, laughing. “I was like OK, we don’t have a TV and it’s the holidays, so forget it. I thought, let’s ride it out with what we have and deal with it next year.”

That was Dec. 7.

So when Santos got a call from North River Dental in Ellenton with the news she won a new TV set in adrawing, she couldn’t believe it.

“I had to wipe my tears,” Santos said, thinking back to the phone call. She had thought the office was calling because she’d missed an appointment.

Santos found out about the win while at work at Riviera Palms Rehabilitation Center in Palmetto and immediately told her children to try to figure out how it was possible.

Turns out the names of patients who referred new clients to the office over a 10-week period were placed in the drawing for the 32-inch flat-screen Samsung television, according to Terry Hawk, new patient coordinator at North River Dental.

Santos has referred about 12 new patients since June 2007.

For Hawk, the way Santos won was something out of the ordinary.

“The interesting thing is, we have a raffle drum and when the person went to pull the name out, her name fell out of the drum,” Hawk said. “It was meant to be.”

Overwhelmed with joy, Santos couldn’t help herself from crying with joy when she went to pick it up.

“It was incredible, she made me cry,” Hawk said. “It could not have been any better.”

Frederick has a simple answer.

“It’s a blessing from God,” he said. “We always pray, we pray right before we go to bed, before we eat we pray, we pray all the time. And we always go to church -- that’s the reason.”week period were placed in the drawing for the 32-inch flat-screen Samsung television, according to Terry Hawk, new patient coordinator at North River Dental.
