Zephyrhills fisherman dies in Bay boating accident

MANATEE -- A 42-year-old man was killed in a boating accident in Tampa Bay on Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

About 10:30 a.m., Anthony George Loveridge of Zephyrhills was killed when he was ejected off the starboard bow of an 18-foot commercial fishing vessel after it hit a sandbar and he was struck by the propeller, according to a news release.

At the time of the accident, near Joes Island east of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Loveridge was operating the boat while fishing for mullet, according to the report. He was not wearing a life preserver.

There was one other person on the vessel at the time of the incident, but he was not injured, according to officials.
