BRADENTON – It was a long time coming, but officials today celebrated the official groundbreaking for the Cedar Hammock-Wares Creek flood control project.
“It’s a great day in Manatee County,” said U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Sarasota, who addressed a crowd of officials under a tent perched along the creek, where the $51.8 million project will take place.
He noted the project, which was decades in the making, “has been a team effort from Day One.”
Officials heard speeches from dignitaries and then donned shovels for the groundbreaking, with the dredge barge that will perform the work sitting in the background.
