MANATEE -- Investigators are searching for answers after the county’s 10th homicide victim of year was found Tuesday morning, the sheriff’s office reports.
Vicente Valerio-Centeno, 47, was found dead by neighbors in parked van at the 700 block of 23rd Street East at about 9:30 a.m., according to reports.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, according to a news release.
“It’s solvable,” said sheriff’s spokesman Dave Bristow, who was not able to release much information about the case. “We are getting leads and the community is being responsive.”
Mary Johnson, 81, lives in the neighborhood but said she didn’t hear or see anything suspicious Monday night.
“I saw the cops here this morning and I was surprised,” Johnson said.
Johnson has been in the neighborhood for about 30 years and said it’s a tight-knit area filled with families.
“It’s kind of frightening,” she said. “I don’t understand it myself.”
Valerio-Centeno’s family declined to comment Tuesday afternoon.
Anyone with more information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 941-747-3011 or call Crime Stoppers at 866-634-8477.
