MANATEE GIVES BACK: Meals on Wheels PLUS needs your yarn

Calling all yarn

Organization: Meals on Wheels PLUS

Its mission: Assist individuals to live independently by providing nutrition and caring supportive services.

One specific need: Meals on Wheels PLUS is in need of yarn donations for volunteers who knit or crochet lap robes and slippers. The items are distributed to needy seniors living in Manatee. Any and all yarn would be appreciated.

Why it’s important: “We have volunteers that take spare time to make blankets and slippers for the homebound seniors we take food to,” said Kristen Theisen, marketing director. “It’s just another way to let them know someone cares and that they are not alone.”

How can you help: Donations can be dropped off at 811 23rd Ave. E., Bradenton. For more information, call (941) 747-4655 or visit www.mealsonwheelsplus.org.

Update: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, whose need for $5,000 to help purchase a new bus was spotlighted last week, surpassed its goal. The organization deposited Thursday a little more than $5,800, according to Jacquie Valentine, marketing manager.
