Pittsburgh rookie wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, a former star at SMU, will be writing an online exclusive Super Bowl XLV diary for the Star-Telegram this week. Here’s his second installment:
My day started off at 9 a.m. when our team meeting turned out to be a massive autograph session.
Our entire team sat together in a huge circle and each player had to sign over 200 Official Balls from Super Bowl XLV. We then headed over to Cowboys Stadium to participate in the annual Super Bowl Media Day. We were following the Packers, so for us, Media Day kicked off at noon. Over 5,000 members of the media have traveled here from all over the world just to get a story about the game, and I was totally blown away by the amount of cameras that seemed to be everywhere.
Today was my first time actually standing on the field of the "house that Jerry built", and I got chills because it’s the biggest stadium I’ve ever seen! I tried to picture in my mind what it will be like Sunday night when it will be packed with over 100,000 people watching me perform at my highest level.
The fact I played my college ball at SMU caused me to get a lot of extra local media attention. It was really good to see everyone again, especially Josh Harvey of Fox Sports, who has been interviewing me since my freshman year at SMU.
I accomplished another one of my goals today: I have always wanted to be interviewed by Deion Sanders live on the NFL Network and it finally happened. Deion has become one of my mentors over the past few years, and we had not seen each other in a while, so that was especially meaningful for me.
After Media Day was over, we took our official Super Bowl team picture. While we were waiting for the photographer to get set, I sat back and just watched my teammates, and thought about our camaraderie. Here we are, getting ready to play in the biggest game of the year on the biggest stage in the world, and yet every one on the team seems to be very loose and laughing the whole time. I think this is what will give us the extra edge on Sunday to being crowned 2011 Super Bowl and World Champions.
Today was our last day of relaxation. We begin getting serious tomorrow with our first practice at TCU. Until next time, take care and God bless.
