Bradenton woman carjacked from McDonald's drive-thru

BRADENTON -- A woman was carjacked from a McDonald's drive-thru today by a suspect who had just stolen liquor from the nearby Sweetbay Liquor Store on 33rd Street East, according to the Manatee sheriff's office.

The victim, 32, was forced to drive to the Mixon Farm area, where the suspect escaped. She apparently was not harmed, detectives said.

The incident started just before noon today, when two men stole some liquor from Sweetbay's and were confronted by store personnel. They fled in different directions, witnesses told detectives.

One suspect ran to the McDonald's drive-thru and jumped into a silver van driven by a woman waiting to pick up food. As she reached the pick-up window, the clerk knew her and could tell something was wrong, according to a release.

The clerk asked the woman if she was OK, who told her "no and to call the police," the release said. The suspect displayed a pistol to the driver and told her to drive off or he would shoot her. He also told her he had just been released from prison for shooting a person, detectives said.

The suspect, about 6-foot-2 and husky, made the woman drive to the Mixon Farm area, where he got out of her vehicle. He used his T-shirt to wipe off anything he may have touched inside her van, she told detectives. The woman then drove to a home in Peridia and called the sheriff's office.

Possible surveillance video was obtained from the McDonald's and Sweetbay Liquors, the sheriff's office stated.
