2 hurt in shootings in Palmetto

MANATEE — Two people were shot within minutes and within blocks of each other in a Palmetto-area neighborhood Saturday afternoon, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 4:40 p.m., a woman in the parking lot of Groover's Market, 111 17th St. E., Palmetto, was shot in the left knee, according to a news release.

As deputies arrived, they saw people running from the grocery store and heard three gunshots from the area of 1500 First Ave. When they responded, deputies found a man on the side of a property in 200 block of 17th St. W. with gunshot wounds to his left arm and left side of his body.

A suspect was not located, according to the sheriff's office.

The man was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, and the female victim was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital.
