Storms cancel more than 50 local flights

MANATEE -- Wintry weather in the Northeast has grounded more than 50 flights at local airports so far today.

At least 10 flights at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport have been canceled, while the tally currently stands at 43 at Tampa International Airport.

Among the casualties:

n Seven flights from Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte N.C., Chicago and New York City to SRQ.

n Three departures -- one each to Atlanta, Chicago and New York -- at SRQ, with an evening flight to Atlanta delayed.

n 25 arrivals and 18 departures at Tampa.

The Tampa flights are to/from multiple cities, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Newark, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.. airport spokeswoman Brenda Geoghagan said.

The 43 canceled flights equate to about a fifth of Tampa International’s daily flight schedule, she said.

Both airports urged travelers to contact their airline for the latest information on cancellations and delays.
