Manatee High baseball assistant coach charged with dealing drugs

MANATEE -- Authorities charged a Manatee High School assistant baseball coach this morning with the sale and trafficking of prescription drugs and cocaine, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Frankie L. Sanders, 35, and another person were taken into custody in the parking lot of Blake Medical Center during what officials described as an apparent drug deal. Sanders had his 3-year-old son with him at the time.

Sanders was arrested without incident, according to a news release.

A search warrant was executed at Sanders’ residence, which yielded $20,000 in cash, 60 grams of cocaine, 92 grams of oxycodone tablets and two grams of Xanax.

Sanders was arrested on multiple counts of sale of a controlled substance and trafficking in a controlled substance. He was being held in the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $250,000.

Possibly more charges are pending, according to authorities.

Authorities said they do not know if Sanders ever sold drugs to students at the high school.
