Bradenton ties record low, but the thaw is underway

MANATEE -- Bradenton overnight tied a 95-year record with a low temperature of 31, according to Bay News 9.

Temperatures in Bradenton dipped to just below freezing early this morning, but were expected to climb into the mid-50s this afternoon, the upper 60s on Thursday and the mid-70s on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A temperature of 31 degrees was recorded at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport at just before 3 a.m. By just before 11 a.m., it had climbed to 49.

Temperatures dropped lower in East Manatee County. The temperature dropped to 35 in Lakewood Ranch, according to Bay News 9, but WeatherUnderground.com reported it dropped to 28 overnight in Myakka City.

Manatee and most of the rest of the Tampa Bay region had been under a hard freeze warning for most of this week, but that expired at 9 a.m. today.

However, the region remains under a less severe "freeze watch," until 8 a.m. Thursday. The forecast low for Bradenton tonight 38, and the high Thursday was set to be 69, according to the weather service.

Bay News 9 forecasters said itwill be cold again tonight with patchy frost.
