Boaters, fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts are invited to celebrate the reopening of Jiggs Landing after a year-long remodeling and renovation by Manatee County.
There will be an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday where visitors can see the new moorings, boat and kayak launch and other amenities -- all the outcome of the $1.7 million project funded through money remaining in the county’s environmental millage fund, and $930,000 in federal and state grants, according to a press release.
A covered pavilion with picnic tables and a wooden boardwalk evoke an old-time feel, much like it must have been when Al “Jiggs” and Agnes Metcalf purchased the property more than 60 years ago to turn it into a fish camp. The county purchased the property in 2005. Refreshments will be available with the proceeds benefiting the United Way.
The park is located at 6106 63rd St. E., Bradenton, off Caruso Road/Braden River Road.
