BRADENTON — The local unemployment rate showed slight improvement in September.
Manatee County’s unemployment rate dropped to 12.6 percent in September, from a revised 12.9 percent in August, according to state labor statistics released today.
The area’s unemployment rate still rests well above Florida’s 11.9 percent unemployment rate, up from 11.8 percent in August.
Manatee’s highest unemployment rate since the recession was declared in December 2008 was 13.3 percent, in January and February 2010.
Sarasota County’s unemployment rate rose to 12.5 percent in September, from a revised rate of 12.4 in August.
Manatee and Sarasota now have a combined jobless population of 39,195.
