Manatee knocked off Sarasota last week, and now it’s Southeast’s turn to take a crack at the Sailors.
Here’s how the matchup breaks down:
Who: Southeast (3-2) at Sarasota (2-3)
When: 7:30 p.m.
Scouting Southeast: After a one-game suspension, Dyron Speight returns to quarterback and gives the Noles’ passing game a nice boost, though backup Myles Braxton-Johnson did a more than adequate job last week in win over Braden River. After this game, the Seminoles play three straight district opponents, which should determine their postseason fate. How best to use running back/defensive back Brian Poole, who leads the Noles in rushing, has yet to be determined. He and linebacker Desmond Blue are the keys to a defense that has been solid, allowing only 13 points in their three victories.
Scouting Sarasota: No one seems to know how to win the battle of turnovers more than head coach Ed Volz, who has his Sailors with a plus-12 turnover margin that easily leads Manatee and Sarasota counties. They also have an area-high 11 interceptions, which could spell trouble for a Southeast team that likes to air it out. The Noles’ heralded receiving corps going against Sarasota’s secondary could provide a very exciting backdrop to this matchup and ultimately determine the winner.
The score: Southeast 24, Sarasota 21
