Bayshore are coming off two straight tough defeats heading into today’s game against Lakewood Ranch, which has fought through a host of injuries to put together four wins in six games this season.
Here’s how the matchup breaks down:
Who: Bayshore (2-4) at Lakewood Ranch (4-2)
When: 7:30 p.m.
Scouting Bayshore: The Bruins suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss last week that probably ruined their chances of reaching the playoffs, so it’s hard to know how the players will respond. They’ve lost three straight, including the past two by a combined three points. This is a non-district game, but there is a lot of pride at stake and perhaps the Bruins’ last chance to salvage the first winning season for head coach J.P. Gordon.
Scouting Lakewood Ranch: The Mustangs have proven to be the area’s most resilient team, fighting off a slew of injuries by moving people into the right places and a plus-7 turnover ratio built on 14 takeaways, which leads Manatee County. Zach Larson has slipped into the quarterback slot and provided a nice change of pace to complement the production of workhorse running back Taryn Laws, who knows how to take advantage of his big offensive line.
The Mustangs could be caught looking ahead to Charlotte.
The score: Lakewood Ranch 17, Bayshore 14.
