MANATEE — A 66-year-old man has been charged with stabbing and critically injuring his roommate late Thursday, according to the Manatee Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say the 55-year-old victim was sleeping when Jack Butler stabbed him in the neck. The victim told investigators that he awoke about 11:24 p.m. to a sharp pain and saw Butler standing over him, according to a news release.
The attack happened at the Mel-Mar Village Mobile Home Park, in the 2800 block of 14th Street West.
The victim fled to a neighbor's residence and called 911. He was conscious when placed in an ambulance, but the latest report was that he was in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.
Butler was arrested about an hour later. He was being held without bond at the Manatee County Sheriff's Office on a charge of aggravated battery.
