Smack of sheriff’s horse leads to DeSoto parade arrest

BRADENTON — A mounted Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducting patrol at the DeSoto Heritage Festival Grand Parade arrested a man he said smacked his horse, according to a sheriff’s report.

At around 9 p.m. Saturday, deputies arrested Chris Wilson, 26, of Bradenton, on a charge of touching or striking a police animal, after a deputy said he smacked his horse on the rear-end as he walked by. The deputy said the smack caused his horse to lurch forward, almost causing the animal to step on others attending the parade.

The deputy said after the smack, in the 1000 block of Manatee Avenue West, Wilson turned around and smiled as he walked away.

Wilson has since been released from the Manatee County jail on his own recognizance.
