When I was a little kid I used to watch Jacques Cousteau on television, contemplating all manner of fascinating creatures that live in the sea.
Being a kid I focused on the nasties — things with sharp teeth, poisonous spines, electric shocks, etc.
I was reminded of this recently while visiting Mote Marine Aquarium in Sarasota, peering safely through the glass at this little guy, whom I found hiding in the shadows, making clever use of its rock-like natural camouflage.
To be sure, all is not always what it appears to be. So next time you’re minding your own business, and having a swell time, don’t forget to read the fine print! Or just when you think it’s safe, you could wind up as someone’s tasty snack!
