MANATEE — A Tampa woman killed in a rollover crash on Interstate 75 in Manatee late Thursday had been on her way with friends to a music festival in Miami, the Florida Highway Patrol reported today.
The 21-year-old woman, Ximena Rodriguez, and five friends were riding in a 2004 Jeep sport utility vehicle at 11:30 p.m., when the 26-year-old driver Johan A. Hurtado, 26, lost control of the vehicle while headed southbound on I-75, at mile marker 231. Troopers have cited Hurtado on a charge of driving too fast for wet conditions on the highway, according to FHP Lt. Chris Miller.
“We believe they were traveling through Manatee County from Tampa, while on their way to a music festival in Miami,” Miller said.
Miller said Hurtado and a 23-year-old man in the front passenger seat were wearing seat belts and suffered minor injuries when the SUV rolled over and slammed into a tree. But four people in the back seat, including Rodriguez, were not wearing seat belts. No charges have been filed.
