Report: Manatee robber tackled by victim, bystanders

MANATEE — The victim of a robbery and several bystanders took a robber to the ground and held him until law enforcement arrived, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

Deputies arrested Eric L. Rue, 39, on Sunday, after arriving to find him being held on the ground by a 22-year-old man he had robbed, along with several of the victim’s friends, the report stated.

The victim said at about 8 p.m., Rue unscrewed the light bulb on his carport and knocked on the door. When the victim answered, Rue snatched a gold chain off his neck. The victim’s friends inside and outside the house saw the robbery and tackled Rue.

Rue was arrested on robbery and drug possession charges, but before going to jail needed treatment for an injured shoulder at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. He has since been booked into the Manatee County jail, where he is being held without bond.
