MANATEE — A deputy shot a Rottweiller dog that charged him as he responded to an animal complaint call early this morning, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.
Sheriff’s deputies responded about 12:20 a.m. in the 2400 block of Sixth Street East, Bradenton, after a man complained that his neighbor’s dog had gotten loose and bit him.
Both sheriff’s deputies and Manatee animal control officials responded to the neighborhood and asked the dog’s owner to secure the animal. The owner tried, but the dog got loose again and charged a deputy, who shot the dog twice, the sheriff’s report said.
Sheriff’s deputies did not make any arrests in connection with the incident, but animal control officials will be conducting an investigation, according to the report.
