Two men were taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg on Friday night after they were injured in two separate vehicle crashes.
Bradenton Police Department officers investigated a crash involving an overturned car in the 900 block of 14th Street West just before 5:30 p.m.
A man was driving a teal Hyundai heading northbound when he attempted to change lanes near the intersection and clipped a car in front of him, according Bradenton Police Department Lt. Bryan Fowler.
The driver, who had nonlife-threatening injuries, hit his head during the crash and was pulled from the car by paramedics. A wooded cane lay behind the overturned vehicle at the scene.
Terri Zbiegien, 36, of Bradenton, witnessed the crash a couple of cars behind the man.
“It was kind of surreal,” she said.
Zbiegien said the driver, who police did not identify, was attempting to switch lanes when he noticed another car coming and tried to move back over, but clipped the car, a dark Toyota Camry, in front of him.
“They just hit the right way and it made his car flip over. Nobody was going fast,” she said.
Police are investigating whether the man had a medical condition that caused him to crash, Fowler said.
No one in the Camry was injured, according to police.
Florida Highway Patrol investigated a second crash in which a 56 year-old Boca Raton man driving a Ford pick-up crashed into a 19-year-old Holmes Beach woman driving a Cadillac sedan at 7:45 p.m. in the 7500 block of Cortez Road.
The woman’s Cadillac then struck a 68-year-old woman driving a Toyota SUV.
A 26-year-old male passenger in the Cadillac was taken to Bayfront Medical Center after he experienced tingling in his legs. It’s possible he injured his spine, according to authorities.
The Holmes Beach woman and another passenger were taken to Blake Medical Center.
The Boca Raton driver, Jiri Beranek, had a pending citation for careless driving.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
