Nightmarish rain dampens recovery in Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE - Several hours of rain in the Haitian capital Thursday morning raised fears of flooding and severe damage in a country that's still trying to recover a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that happened exactly one month ago.

Settlement residents in Haiti's largest camp, the Champs des Mars, could be heard screaming for help through the morning from an adjacent hotel where many journalists are housed.

The rains come as tens of thousands of people remain homeless because of destroyed homes and temporary shelter remains scarce. The United Nations acknowledges that only 25 percent of the homeless have tarps or tents.
