Manatee High Davis Building: End of an icon

January 19, 2010 12:00 AM

The 32nd Street edifice of Manatee High School’s storied Davis Building came crashing down Monday, part of a month-long demolition expected to be completed Feb. 15. The project began last week as construction crews tore down the building’s north wing. On Monday, down came the building’s classic frontispiece that greeted Manatee students since 1926. The new 66,936- square-foot building, scheduled to be completed for the 2011 school year, will bear the same traditional look as the old exterior, said Principal Bob Gagnon.
