The Manatee Hurricanes stunned the nation Friday night, dumping the No. 1 team in the country, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, 28-20 in the Class 5A state semifinal at Hawkins Stadium.
The Raiders came into the game with a 37-game winning streak, but that didn’t phase Manatee (13-1).
Head coach Joe Kinnan’s Canes now have a shot to capture the school’s fifth state title. They’ll face Tampa Plant, which dominated Lakeland 20-0, at 7 p.m. Friday at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
