BRADENTON — Manatee County schools are projected to see a loss of 288 students during the 2009-2010 school year, according to a five-day student count conducted by the Manatee County School District and released today.
Originally, district officials projected there would be 42,046 students enrolled in Manatee District schools this school year. After conducting the five-day count, district officials now estimate there will be 41,758 students in Manatee District schools during the 2009-2010 school year.
The projected decline, if realized, would represent the second time in the last nine years that the number of students in the district has decreased in relation to the previous school year. During the 2006-2007 school year, the number of students decreased by 146 students compared to the 2005-2006 school year.
