MANATEE — A car wash organized to benefit the family of homicide victim DeJuan Williams raised $1,582 for the family to pay funeral and other expenses.
Williams’ football and track teammates from Bayshore High School washed more than 100 vehicles in the benefit, which was hosted by Autoway Ford, 3400 14th St. W., Bradenton.
Williams’ funeral is Saturday.
Williams had returned home just before 10 p.m. Aug. 4 to find Byron Galloway, 16, on his family’s property in the 4400 block of York Drive, with his 14-year-old sister, against his parents’ orders, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
When Williams confronted Galloway with a baseball bat, detectives say Galloway pulled a handgun and opened fire on Williams, striking him once. Williams later died at Manatee Memorial Hospital.
Galloway has been charged with murder.
